A Billionaire BMU - 432 Park Avenue

432 Park Avenue is a 1,396-foot-tall, 85-story contemporary skyscraper located on “Billionaires’ Row” in Midtown Manhattan and features stunning views of New York City and Central Park. The building was developed by CIM Group and Harry B. Macklowe and designed by architect Rafael Viñoly. When construction was completed in 2015, 432 Park Ave was the tallest residential building in the world, it currently stands as the third tallest residential building in the world (the other two are also on Billionaire’s Row).

R&R Scaffolding, Ltd was selected to design, manufacture, and install a fixed-in-place, self-stable, single-jib Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) on the roof of the building. The 94,000 lb. BMU features a pantographic (scissor-type) mast, which raises the boom to allow the platform to clear the parapet. When work is completed, the boom is lowered into its parking position; this completely hides the machine from view. A three-section telescopic boom allows the machine to achieve a maximum outreach of 62 feet, granting access to the entire façade of the tower. The platform has two telescopic end sections which increase the platform length from 26 feet up to 34 feet. The BMU includes a 4,000 lb. auxiliary hoist to support the large (10 ft x 10 ft) glazing units which infill the concrete grid of the building’s exterior.
