Safety Training

photoAll workers on suspended scaffolding must possess a “certificate of fitness”.  According to the Suspended Scaffold Worker Safety Task Force Report (Dec. 2006), only 50% of workers were in compliance.  The proposed penalties for failure to produce a certificate of fitness range from $1,500 for a first offense to $15,000 for multiple offenses.  (Current penalties range from $500-$10,000).

As of May 1, 2001 the Building Code of the City of New York, Title 27, Chapter 1, Vol. 2, Selected Rules, Appendix A, §9-03(b)[certificate of fitness](1) states: “A person issued a certificate of fitness must:…(iii) possess a certificate of completion from a recognized scaffold safety training course…”

R&R Scaffolding offers a recognized scaffold safety training course.  The course was written by scaffold industry experts and is endorsed by the Scaffolding Industry Association (SIA).  Our instructors have over 20 years field experience and have completed the SIA’s “Train the Trainer” course.

R&R offers two courses:

  • The one day (8-hour) course teaches operator safety and hazard awareness.  This course satisfies the requirement set forth by the NYC Dept. of Buildings.
(This class is designed for the operator)
  • The two day (16-hour) course teaches hands-on rigging methods and safety practices.
(This class is designed for the operator/installer)

Rates for each class will vary depending on the number of students.  Minimum class size is 8 students.
